Melbourne folk duo-turned-experimental musical adventurers Oh Pep! have released the first tantalisingly sweet taste of their upcoming debut album Stadium Cake with their new single ‘Doctor Doctor‘.
Despite initial releases, which were largely rooted in folk music, the group’s songwriters Olivia Hally (guitar, vocals) & Pepita Emmerichs (fiddle, mandolin) have drawn upon a vast array of styles and influences regardless of genre to compile their first full-length release, which promises to be a record with “limitless horizons”.
‘Doctor Doctor’ itself is an indie-pop/electronic fusion that begins as a quirky, intricate slow-burner before suddenly exploding into an uplifting, melodic anthem, perfectly mashing heavy synth tones with a plucky violin which seems a surprising, yet remarkable combination in itself.
The album was recorded in the small town of Lake Echo in Canada throughout 2015 with producer Daniel Ledwell (Jenn Grant, Fortunate Ones), as they began touring internationally, with breakthrough performances at New York’s CMJ, Seattle’s KEXP, Washington’s NPR Tiny Desk and SXSW.
Having just signed to Dualtone Music Group (The Lumineers, Shakey Graves) in the U.S. the group have announced a large run of shows across both Europe and America, but will first tour their home nation, beginning this week, with full dates listed below.
