Red Bull Music Academy are back for another round of their Club Night Series. This time they’ve reached out to two of the United States’ most prolific producers in modern funk fusion, Benedek and Moon B, who will no doubt have punters grooving from beginning to end.
The Los Angeles-based Moon B aka Wes Gray, has been probing the fringes of lofi left-leaning modern funk, proto-house, and “spaced out boogie” since 2012. Having been released on People’s Potential Unlimited (PPU), 1080p, Nous, Voltaire and Omega Suprem, his tracks have also been played by the likes of Groove Armada, Australia’s Andras Fox, and Los Angeles’ own modern funk ambassador and Stones Throw Records’ mainstay Dām Funk (who he recently opened for alongside Nite Jewel).
Benedek, aka Nicholas Benedek, is a multifaceted musician, inspired by the cultures and sounds of funk, hip-hop, soul, progressive rock and jazz-fusion, as well as house and techno. With his introduction into music coming at 9 years-old from playing guitar, Benedek was naturally drawn to jazz and funk artists such as Herbie Hancock and Jeff Beck. It’s his experimentation and virtuosic guitar, bass and keyboard playing that has him stand out from the rest.
