After a four-year hiatus, American indie-rock outfit Beirut are back with the title track off their upcoming album, No No No.
Recorded over a two week period in New York, during one of the city’s infamous snowstorms, the album was inspired by a pivotal period in lead singer Zach Condon’s life. In the midst of a divorce and a gruelling touring schedule, Condon suffered a breakdown and was hospitalised on the band’s Australian leg of their 2013 tour. Coming out the other end with a positive outlook, Condon has channeled that energy into the album and it definitely shows on the lead single.
“La, La La, La La La,” Candon swoons sweetly, his voice enveloped by a cheerful and spirited arrangement of piano, bass, guitar and drums, with some soft horns – a bit more stripped back than what Beirut fans will be used to, but a much-welcomed change nonetheless.
Beirut’s album No No No will be released September 11th via 4AD/Remote Control.
