BANALARAMA are a bunch of Melbourne-based filmmakers who’ve been working on a new project ABABCd, a series of live video recordings from some of Australia’s most interesting bands with a handful of international acts thrown in. Previous ABABCd episodes have included sets from Big Scary, Banoffee, Kirin J Callinan and King Gizzard.
The next showcase will feature The Harpoons, Mangelwurzel, Sui Zhen and a secret special guest performer yet to be announced; all of the acts were filmed at the famous Gasometer Hotel’s open-air band room.
You’ll catch full sets by each band as well as short interviews conducted by BANALARAMA co-founder Nick Clarke. The Harpoons retro inspired melodies and infectious hooks will have everyone boogie-ing on down along with jazz punk oddity Mangelwurzel. The enigmatic and enthralling Sui Zhen will not disappoint the audience with Rolling Stone describing her music as “John Hughes on acid” and “skewed Cyndi Lauper pop.”
