The guys from BAD//DREEMS have been busy: they’ve dropped new guitar-heavy single ‘Hiding Nothing’ ahead of their debut record and supporting tour later this year.
The Adelaide four-piece have been working with heavy-weight producer Mark Opitz (INXS, AC/DC, Cold Chisel) for Dogs At Bad, which is set to extend their rough and ready sound to new places. ‘Hiding Nothing’ mixes a heavy bass beat and guitar licks with lead vocalist Ben Marwe’s brooding lyrics about life in Adelaide. Marwe drones ‘Swimming through another Friday night, bathe yourself in the pokie lights’ about his mixed relationship with his hometown, saying:
“At its best it is an idyllic town, with a temperate climate and beautiful surrounds. At its worst it is stiflingly conservative, inward-looking and somewhat bereft of culture.”
This sentiment – of growing up and leaving home – has inspired a lot of their new LP. Combined with the group’s signature brand of ragged rock, it’s sure to be an anticipated release. Better still, they’re taking it to the road. BAD//DREEMS will tour the major capitals in September and August with up-and-coming Sydney group Green Buzzard, as well as appearing at Splendor In The Grass in a few weeks.
‘Hiding Nothing’ is out now through Ivy League.
BAD//DREEMS’ debut album Dogs At Bay is due out 21 August 2015.
