Thought provoking hip hop duo A.B. Original have just unveiled the visual trimmings behind the highly discussed track ‘January 26’ at this year’s BIGSOUND conference.

On top of this, the pair also revealed that A.B. Original are the first to be announced for the 2017 Laneway Festival, where they will perform as well as MC the five date festival.

It is dope to be part of Laneway – one of the only national touring festivals around, whose lineup also sets the tone for the year. It is kind of cool that Laneway recognises us as part of the forefront of where rap music is heading.”

The heavily rotated single ‘January 26’ enlists the vocal support of Dan Sultan and has already attracted a wealth of mixed emotions regarding its historical undertones. The track highlights the restlessness felt by many regarding the current social climate of Australia and addresses a range of issues indigenous Australians face on a daily basis.

“Australia Day is one symptom of the bigger issues of the racism in Australia. You can address Australia Day, you can address people doing Blackface – but things aren’t going to change until people are willing to have the conversation about the bigger issue of racism.”

A.B. Original’s debut album, ‘Reclaim Australia’, will be released later this year via Golden Era Records and Bad Apples Music.
