With the annual Reclink Community Cup just a few sleeps away, we thought it would be only right to dive into a few examples of footy/music cross-pollination and visit a few interesting offerings that have been produced over the years.

We asked Melbourne locals The Peep Tempel to chuck together a list of footy songs in preparation for their appearance at the Melbourne leg of the Community Cup – and boy did they come up with some zingers….

Warwick Capper- I only take what’s mine

“Had this track been released in the past two years, Capper would be a darling of the Melbourne underground. He’s got the looks of Craig Dermody and the brooding mystery of Lace Curtain. Spectacular.”

Jacko – Me Brain Hurts

“The B-side to the smash hit “I’m an Individual”. Shows the depth of the act.”

Various – We love Football

“80’s beats at their best! Sounds like an early demo for Easy- Duz- It. Certainly not the worst Aussie hip hop I’ve heard.”

The Club – Up there Cazaly

“It’s the guitar part to “Everybody’s Talking” by Harry Nilsson. But that’s ok, it’s still the greatest footy song ever.”

Luke McFarlane- Leaders

“I have a pathological hatred for the Fremantle Dockers. So it gives me great pleasure in presenting this little gem. Had McFarlane stayed fit, The Dockers would have probably won a flag. Oh well. Maybe he’ll get an ARIA”
