Putting Adelaide on the Indie map is The New Yorks with their single and accompanying video clip for ‘We Enjoy This Too Much’.
From the outset, The New Yorks slap us with some unavoidable qualities:
a) They love the nineties
b) They really want you to dance
c) Their appreciation for The Strokes is undying
‘We Enjoy This Too Much‘ blends garage tinged indie rock with reggae sensibilities driving its verses that sit perfectly under a summer sun. Front man Vinnie provides a deep, raspy vocal performance with both swagger and finesse that hovers over the track, and puts you in the mood to groove.
Bursting with nineties praise, the clip follows a creepy masked character through a mock-VHS journey around the band’s Adelaide based spots of nostalgia. The wolf-headed subject provides an aura of gothic fuelled fantasy, once popular to explore the juxtaposed extremities of humankind. The title ‘We Enjoy This Too Much‘ gives us further indication that these guys are not shying away from our decadent shortcomings.
With a growing list of media celebration and high profile producers to their name, The New Yorks brand new EP I Wish I Was You But That’s Just Me, is looking set to be an Australian Indie favourite of 2017.
