Tasmania’s best and most renowned music festival Dark Mofo is back for 2017. The festival, which takes place at the iconic and idyllic Mona Gallery thematically deals with ancient winter solstice rituals, and serves to explore the links between old and modern mythologies, traditions, and the nature of birth and death. The winter festival creates an immersive world of their own, through ambitions execution and ideas.Tasmania’s Mona Gallery, where Dark Mofo will take place.
Dark Mofo will take place in June of this year, with tickets on sale in early April. To get us all excited, Dark Mofo have announced the first act to be taking part in the festival this year, and it is a tantalising glimpse into the unique sounds the festival will have to offer attendees. Ulver from Norway, recognised as pioneers of Norwegian black metal, will be performing as part of the festival at the Odeon Theatre in Hobart, on Thursday the 15th of June 2017.
Ulver‘s vocalist Kristoffer Rygg has said, “Dark Mofo is one strange beast of a festival, and they have really pulled out all the big guns to make it possible to drag a pack of Vikings quite literally to the other side of the world in June. We have heard exceptional tales about this midwinter celebration. Considering the overall aesthetic of the festival and the type of art and acts it has featured before, this will be a trip extraordinaire and no doubt a once in a lifetime experience for Ulver.”
Dark Mofo is a project of Mona, supported by the State Government through Events Tasmania.
