Following up a win at the Byron Bay Blues Festival Busking Competition and a tour supporting Aussie folk legend Kim Churchill can be a tough ask, but it doesn’t seem like an issue for Byron Bay based multi-instrumentalist Tay Oskee. Oskee’s brand new track ‘Like Waves’ is a beautiful and uplifting folk tune which encapsulates the paradise vibes of Byron Bay.
Oskee was raised around Mission Beach, a small town on the coast of the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland and it comes out in his music with a laid back and beautiful sound that transports you to a remote sanctuary surrounded by soft sand and calm waves.
Tay spent some of his early years living living in North East Arnhem Land with Indigenous Australians and it is through this time he developed a strong connection to music, dance and nature.
“I feel very lucky that I had the opportunity to grow up surrounded by the Yolngu culture of North East Arnhem Land and I think this is why I’ve always felt a deep connection to nature and having an alternative lifestyle.” Oskee explains, never feeling like the kind of person wanting to work the 9 to 5 job to save for a house in modern society.
Taking inspiration from stars such as Fat Freddy’s Drop, John Butler Trio and Xavier Rudd, Tay Oskee’s sound tends to incorporate more of a multicultural influence while never straying to far from the wonderful guitar driven riffs you would associate with folk music.
“This song is an anthem for those people who are stuck in that life that modern society has moulded them into but want to change. It’s about having the courage to say no, to stand up and live a life that is good for you and our beautiful earth.”
Tay Oskee will be taking his guitar, banjo and harmonica on tour through the east coast of Australia, with all the tour dates down below.
