One of Australia’s hottest new acts to watch in 2017 is Byron Bay’s very own Kyle Lionheart. Initially making a name for himself by busking the beach and surrounding areas, Kyle gained a legion of fans with his independently released 2015 EP ‘Keep in mind’.
Not one to delay an inevitable rise, Ivy League Records wasted no time in signing the talented singer-songwriter. His debut single is the unmissable ‘Call back home’, which premiered on triple J a few nights ago.
Produced by John Castle (producer of Vance Joy), the broody track opens with ‘Lay down by my shadow, told me my secrets, told me their true/And he sqid/well fuck where you’re going, left without reason, told me I knew’. It is clever, emotive wordplay like this that is bound to gain him national recognition sooner or later.
A beautiful and equally powerful video that really captures the essence of the song and its meaning can be viewed here. Kyle believes the track serves a specific purpose, saying “It’s about avoiding that darker side of yourself, the side of ourselves that we consistently distract and sedate only for it to explode at the worst possible moments”.
In order to start 2017 off with a bang, Kyle will pick up his acoustic and head for the road this March and April, where you can catch him on his national tour. From busking to becoming, Kyle Lionheart is carefully curating a massive 2017.
