It was a scorcher of a day on 25th November, but that didn’t stop crowds from making the trek to the Yarra Valley for Grapevine Gathering.
It reached a top of 32 degrees, but in Coldstream, that felt even hotter! People fought for shade, there was some unfortunate looking sunburn and I overheard a few girls complaining about boob sweat.
Rochford Winery hosted the day-long event that saw some top acts including Total Giovanni, Bag Raiders and London Topaz perform on the main stage.
You may think winery, chill tracks and a sunny arvo would mean relaxed vibes, but the gathering was more doofy than expected.
The Rochford Winery cellar door itself was open to VIP only, but general punters got to sample their wines in a special tasting section and food vans galore were parked on site.
The acts kept the party going serving up some top electronic and house tracks from local and international talent. Germany’s Claptone and Lovebirds were standouts and local band Cub Sport kept the mood mellow.
It seemed like everyone was holding out to hear ‘Shooting Stars’ by Bag Raiders who dipped into the night-time hopefully leaving everyone feeling good for the inevitable bus ride back to the city.
Overall, it had the potential to be a lot better than it was – perhaps by keeping it more intimate and making it feel more like live music at a winery rather than a large-scale out of town festival. However, it was still a great way to enjoy a sunny day in country VIC with friends and great music.
