The inaugural Good Island Festival kicks off this Saturday, 4th February, at The John Curtin Hotel and the Bella Union Bandroom & Ballroom in Carlton.

Presented by Wondercore Island (the management team behind acts such as Hiatus Kaiyote, Oscar Key Sung, LOSSLESS and Vulture St Tape Gang) and Good Manners, the festival will showcase a large portion of acts from the Melbourne scene, not to mention some other Aussie favorites.

In light of the current tensions in immigration, racism, homophobia and persecution of stereotypes, Good Island have just released a series of rules aimed to inhibit the aforementioned behaviours: “expressions of hatred will result in immediate removal of the event”. It’s worth mentioning that Good Island have also announced that 100% of profits will be donated to the Asylum Seeker Resource Center, which ultimately aims to change the attitudes on the rights of people seeking asylum.

So with all hardships that are currently being expressed and felt, an event such as this may provide a sense of solace for those who want to simply express themselves while they watch some great live music.

Make sure you get along and support the music, support the festival, and support the great work and light that Good Island is bringing!

You can catch Oscar Key Sung, Swooping Duck, Groeni (NZ), Vulture St Tape Gang, Nai Palm, Uncomfortable Science plus many more at Good Island Festival this Saturday. See www.goodisland.com.au for full details.
