Producer Amin Payne returns to the Evelyn Hotel this Saturday (11/02/2017) to perform ‘Due Dillagence’; his live tribute to the one and only J Dilla.
For those of you who don’t know much about the legend that is J Dilla, he is regarded as being one of the most inspirational hip-hop producers of our time, period. Having released his own acclaimed records such as Donuts, Welcome 2 Detroit, and The Shining, he has collaborated with a large number of hip hop and neo soul superstarts, namely D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, and The Roots, and also been responsible for records like Common‘s Like Water For Chocolate and Mos Def‘s The Ecstatic. J Dilla sadly passed away in 2006, but his legacy is as strong as it has ever been. J Dilla‘s influence is drenched in Melbourne’s hip hop scene, and Due Dillagence is a strong proof of that.
With Payne manning the fort on the MPC, he’ll be backed by a live band which will include drummer Stevie Cat Jr (Kimbra, Seth Sentry), producer/multi-instrumentalist Silentjay (Silentjay & Jace XL, Hiatus Kaiyote), MC Cazeaux O.S.L.O (Man Made Mountain) plus many more. They’ll play a range of joints from the J Dilla catalogue, including the favourites ‘Fantastic’, ‘Fall In Love’, ‘Time: The Donut Of The Heart’, and ‘The Look Of Love’. Due Dillagence will feature support from Acid Slop, Billy Hoyle x Nfa Jones, and UMUT. Doors 8pm. Tickets $12 (+BF) via Oztix, $15 door charge.
This event is associated with Ma Dukes Official, and a portion of the profits will be donated to the J Dilla Foundation.
