The Smith Street Band, named after the iconic street in their hometown of Melbourne, are a band hard to define. After an exceptionally busy year, The Smith Street Band having spent most of this year performing gigs all across the world, the band-of-four has returned with a brand new single in ‘Death To The Lads’.

Written on the road whilst driving through America, the album has become an instant favourite among their fans with their one-of-a-kind soundtracks, once again displaying songwriter Wil Wagner’s knack of transforming ruin into beauty. Mainly about growing up and changing, the recurring theme of the album was about admitting to mistakes made, and constantly trying to improve oneself.

Accompanying the single is the heartwarming film clip directed by Neal Walters, featuring The Smith Street Mums – the mothers of each of the four members, live out a day in the life of the band, from waking up in their shared Footscray house, to driving around the Suburbs in their tour van, before ultimately ending in a peaking sold-out show at The Reverence Hotel.

‘Death To The Lads’ is the first released single of the The Smith Street Band’s fourth record, to be released in early 2017 via their very own, newly established Pool House Records label. The band will launch their shows this month in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, supported by other bands such as The Nation Blue, instrumental psych-trio Grim Rhythm and Brisbane experimental pop band Forevr.

The Smith Street Band have definitely found their niche. With a growing fan base across the globe, they are most definitely a band on the rise.
