Spend your breezy Sunday afternoons soaking up the sun in Melbourne’s iconic backyard – theNGV Garden. Under the vibrant 2015 Summer Architecture Commission designed by John Wardle Architects, enjoy a handful of artists as they take to the stage amongst sizzling BBQ’s, pop-up bars and free drop-by activities for the kids at NGV’s Summer Sundays.
Stepping up to the mark, February will see ARIA nominated singer-songwriter Dan Kelly and his Dream Band dishing up their own Leisure Panic; Melbourne’s melodist Ainslie Wills set fire to her vocals and strings; post-punk upcomers Gold Class bite grit and feverish breakdowns; and the talented and graceful Ella Thompson hypnotise with glassy synths and reverb.
The family-friendly program at Summer Sundays will also complement current exhibitions at NGV, including Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei, spanning more than 300 works from both artists’ careers; Studio Cats, which features cat-themed interactive activities and artworks; Jess Johnson: Wurm Haus, the first virtual reality artwork presented at the NGV; Blue: Alchemy of a Colour, which explores the meaning and symbolism of the colour blue and the Friday Nights at NGV music program each Friday at Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei.
