Ever wondered how it would be like to spend the night at the museum?
Now you no longer have to – Museum Victoria runs a monthly music event called NOCTURNAL, where members of the public are invited to enjoy live music while soaking in the exhibits.
Watch as the museum is transformed into an adult playground, with a monthly rotating list of the latest bands and DJs performing live, bars, great food, roving entertainment, discussions with museum experts and learning experiences across collections, cultures and time.
On the 19th of April, NOCTURNAL is proudly hosting the 2018 Music Cities Convention edition, a special one-off event in conjunction with the conference where delegates from musical and political backgrounds come together to discuss the best of music, and how it can be a creative force for good for the community and society.
The conference brings together leaders from governments, cities and regions, academics, organisations and the music scene to discuss, debate and introduce new thinking. It showcases the best practices on the use of music – and all its variants – in improving city life. It also explores the role and impact of music across education, employment, community building, place-making, licensing and regulation.
This evening is an opportunity for delegates of the conference to let their hair down and expand on the discussions of the day as they soak in the live entertainment and exhibits of the party. Attendees can expect to have a magical evening of stimulating conversation about the tangible impact of music and society whilst being thoroughly entertained by exciting performances from the likes of ECCA VANDAL and BIRDZ.
Melbourne is truly a music city, with its strong reputation for hosting a range of festivals for different tastes. But with the advent of Nocturnal, the city is signalling a willingness to embrace the celebration of music even in the most unusual of places.
