From the outset, it was evident that the American band Starset were not your average up and down, side to side Rock ‘n’ Roll band. Formed in 2013 by frontman Dustin Bates, Starset is a band that aims to promote all things science and technology through a number of different platforms including, but not limited to, their music. Perhaps taking a leaf out of Ziggy Stardust’s manual, Starset created a fictional backstory to the creation of the band and in doing so set up what is called the Starset Society. Due to their keen involvement in science and the galaxy, it comes as little surprise that Starset and the Starset Society have found a new medium in which to further pursue their scientific endeavours.

The Starset Society, Starset and in particular Bates in collaboration with Marvel Comics, have just announced they will be writing an 88 page original graphic novel; The Prox Transmissions. Set in the far corners of the Galaxy, The Prox Transmissions is a powerful, scientifically-charged story about Galactic domination and the role humanity plays within.

“Im incredibly excited to have the opportunity to create this graphic novel with Marvel Comics on behalf of The Starset Society,” said Bates.

Inspired by science heavyweights such as Nikola Tesla, Starset’s albums, videos, websites, novels and live performances were created as part of the Starset Society and as a means to further publicise new technologies, and delve into their own social, economic, political and philosophical impact on the world around them.

Following the release of their stellar sophomore album, Vessels, Starset are heading to Australia for the first time this August.
